PAC-CI 2023 Scientific Days

Summary & Key Points

"Subject: Renewal of the Franco-Ivorian Scientific Partnership around the PAC-CI Program and Signing Ceremony in January 2023"

During his visit to Côte d'Ivoire in April 2022, the Director of the ANRS-MIE (French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Emerging Infectious Diseases), Mr. Yazdan Yazdanpana, met with the Ivorian Ministers in charge of Health and Research, to discuss the PAC-CI program and the prospects of this partnership that has brought together French and Ivorian research actors for over 30 years, and which produces excellent results each year in the field of research on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, Ebola, and Covid-19. Given its both national and international scope, this program places Côte d'Ivoire and France in a joint leadership position in research on HIV/AIDS infection and highly epidemic infectious diseases.

During this meeting, they agreed to renew the convention governing this partnership, to optimize its functioning and enable it to adapt to the new challenges posed by emerging diseases. After taking the time to give substance to these objectives, a draft text for this convention was prepared by the ANRS-MIE, attempting to integrate all the elements discussed. The PAC-CI program and the ANRS-MIE are organizing scientific days on January 23 and 24, 2023. These days, which have been held every two years for 20 years, are open to a large number of health and research actors, members of public health institutions, and representatives of civil society. The Director of the ANRS-MIE, Mr. Yazdan Yazdanpana, the President-Director General of the IRD (Institut de Recherche et de Développement), Mrs. Valérie Verdier, the President of the INSERM (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research), Mr. Gilles Bloch, and the President of the University of Bordeaux, Mr. Dean Lewis, will participate in this meeting.

This event, both scientific and strategic, will allow for an assessment and prospects for Franco-Ivorian research, and will also be an opportunity to formalize the renewal of the Franco-Ivorian scientific partnership and sign this new convention in the presence of all concerned actors.
