A Message from Management

1996–2026 

For 29 years, the PAC-CI program has been driven by the commitment of the Ivorian and French governments to conduct research on HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases—with findings that would benefit infected and affected populations—and to promote the training of healthcare professionals in medical research.

PAC-CI initially focused on HIV infection, then expanded its research to include viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, infectious diseases with the potential to cause epidemics (including viral hemorrhagic fevers), and maternal and child health, adopting an increasingly “global health” approach.  As evidence of this, PAC-CI has been participating as a key player since January 2023 in the International Research Platform on Global Health known as PRISME-CI; This is an important milestone, ensuring a broader range of research topics, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a wider variety of partnerships.

What has been the outcome since then?

As of December 31, PAC-CI has collaborated on more than 170 studies since its inception, including 36 studies currently underway in 2024.

PAC-CI researchers have contributed to 48 publications in peer-reviewed journals in 2024, bringing the total to more than 800 publications since 1996.

In nearly 30 years, 123 inter-university degrees have been awarded, along with 135 Master’s 2 degrees and 45 PhDs.

PAC-CI and the IDLIC/GHiGS Inserm/IRD team at the University of Bordeaux have a scientific engineering infrastructure that allows them to independently manage the studies they coordinate jointly. It is a Franco-Ivorian collaborative platform dedicated to clinical, operational, and epidemiological research.

Resolutely focused on the future and major public health challenges, and grounded in a strong track record of study results that have served as the basis for WHO recommendations, PAC-CI has expanded its research scope and aims to rethink its framework for international and national partnerships.

This aligns with our vision, as outlined in the 2025–2029 strategic plan: By 2029, the quality of our governance and our growing and diversified activities will ensure effective collaboration with leading partners and harmonious, continuous development within an attractive work environment.
