PAC-CI placed child protection at the center of its research from the very beginning
From the very beginning, the PAC-CI Program focused on a major public health issue: mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
At a time when access to treatment was still limited, this form of transmission was a major concern for healthcare providers, families, and health systems. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding were particularly sensitive periods at the time, requiring tailored responses to better protect newborns.
Faced with this challenge, PAC-CI chose to make child protection a key focus of its research. This commitment led to the conduct of two pioneering trials: DITRAME and DITRAME+.
Through these studies, the Program has been working to find concrete solutions to better understand how to reduce the risk of mother-to-child HIV transmission in our context.
