Summary & Key Points
"The PAC-CI Programme presented findings from a study on perceptions of long-acting PrEP among female sex workers and men who have sex with men in San Pedro and Abidjan, revealing widespread enthusiasm for these new prevention tools."
Ms. Evelyne Kissi, social science researcher at the PAC-CI Program, presented the results of a study in poster form, “Perception of Long-Acting Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Female Sex Workers and Men Who Have Sex with Men in San Pedro and Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.”
The Princess team conducted additional qualitative research to capture the views of sex workers (male and female) on new long-acting PrEP prevention tools, including injectable PrEP, the vaginal ring, vaginal and anal suppositories, microbicide gel, and the implant.
The study found that most sex workers are enthusiastic about the idea of a groundbreaking, less burdensome tool. Injectable PrEP appears to be the most favored option. However, each tool has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on individual preferences.
In conclusion, long-acting PrEP, through these tools, offers a range of options tailored to user preferences.
