PAC-CI Program/Princesse Project: Presentation of the results of the "Long-acting Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Perception among Sex Workers and MSM in San Pedro and Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire"

Summary & Key Points

"The PAC-CI Program presented the results of a study on the perception of long-acting PrEP among sex workers and MSM in San Pedro and Abidjan, revealing a general enthusiasm for these new prevention tools."

Ms. Evelyne Kissi, a social sciences researcher at the PAC-CI program, presented the results of a study in poster form, "Perception of Long-Acting Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Sex Workers and MSM in San Pedro and Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire."

Indeed, the Princesse team conducted additional qualitative research to capture the opinions of male and female sex workers on new long-acting PrEP prevention tools, including injectable PrEP, vaginal rings, vaginal and anal suppositories, microbicide gels, and implants.

The study found that the majority of sex workers are enthusiastic about a revolutionary and less burdensome tool. Injectable PrEP appears to be the most appreciated. However, each tool has its own advantages and specific disadvantages for different individuals.

In conclusion, long-acting PrEP, through these tools, offers various options depending on user preferences.
