PAC-CI Program/Princesse Project: Presentation of the findings from the study “Perceptions of Long-Acting Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Sex Workers and Men Who Have Sex with Men in San Pedro and Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.”

Ms. Evelyne Kissi, a social science researcher with the PAC-CI Program, presented the results of a study in the form of a poster titled “Perceptions of Long-Acting Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Sex Workers and Men Who Have Sex with Men in San Pedro and Abidjan, Ivory Coast.”

In fact, the Princesse team conducted additional qualitative research to gauge the opinions of sex workers (both men and women) on new long-acting PrEP prevention methods, specifically injectable PrEP, the vaginal ring, vaginal and anal suppositories, microbicide gel, and the implant. 

This study shows that the majority of sex workers are enthusiastic about the idea of a revolutionary and less burdensome tool. Injectable PrEP appears to be the most popular. However, each tool, in its own way, has advantages and certain disadvantages specific to different individuals. 

In conclusion, long-acting PrEP, through these methods, offers a variety of options depending on users’ preferences.
